Fremont Peak State Park has a great view of Monterey and San Benito counties. Leaving the highway, the road begins to get windy and narrow, with sharp turns and elevation gain. I’d recommend small cars, but trucks and minivans can definitely pass. The park is not very crowded so finding parking should not be an issue.
The first parking lot you’ll reach is where you’ll self register, pay, pee, and obtain a map. The second parking lot is where you’ll start the climb to Fremont Peak (~2 miles round trip).
To find Peak Trail, you’ll have to walk on the service vehicle road and take the trail immediately on the right. The trail is rocky and some portions are only big enough for just one person at a time. Even If you have a slight fear of heights, the trail is actually quite doable; you might feel your bladder tingling though.
There is an observatory where you can see through a 30 ft telescope. This is only open in the evenings on certain days and I reckon is a cool activity for campers.
