Russian Gulch State Park has two attractions that you don’t want to miss in Mendocino. First one is the easy Fern Canyon Trail to the 36ft waterfall and the second one is the arched Highway 1 bridge beach.
Fern Canyon Trail to the waterfall and back is ~4.5 miles from the parking lot and is green the whole way. To get to the parking lot make sure you drive through the campground sites because that will save you at least half a mile walk. The restrooms nearest are closer to the campsites so stop at the 15 minute parking there before continuing. There is a shorter way to get to the waterfall using Road 409 off HWY-1 but I recommend walking the longer route! You can walk all the way to the top of the waterfall or just rest on the bench.
