McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is my favorite waterfall in all of California. Take the Falls Loop Trail where you will cross over the Rainbow Footbridge to see Burney Falls, a sight that will make your jaw drop. The location is very easy to visit and the large waterfall is rarely ever dry. (In general, the best times to visit any waterfall regardless are spring and early summer.) The trail is shaded and the area is big enough to get different shots of the waterfall.
You’ll have to jump a couple of slippery rocks at the foot of the falls, but the water’s mists feel great on a hot day. If you want to lengthen the walk and jump into calm water, Burney Creek Trail to the Lake Britton marina is another option. However, you can easily just drive there on Lake Road. While you are there, stop by the Visitor Center to learn more about how the state park was created. For those camping overnight, hike the Pioneer Cemetery Trail.
